8 sins confessed

tagged by: kristin
tagging: anyone who cares to...

1. self-pity: i am reasonable sure other than family and one or two other people, no one really cares one way or another about me. i recognize that this view is likely distorted. there prob are at least a few others that are not completely apathetic about me; they dislike me...

2. i'm very calm and easy going - EXCEPT when push too far, then i blow up - almost would be better to blow off steam a bit at a time

3. i can be manipulative when i want to - most of the time, i use my powers for the good.

4. gluttony - do *not* get between me and a cheese pizza....

5. sloth - exercise?

6. non-thriftiness - i am the worst manager of financial issues i know...

7. immaturity - never act my age

8. procrastination - never understood why that was a bad thing - i mean, if i put off what i don't want to do, i might die in the meantime and never have to do it...

artspace member show...

in the month of june i had the pleasure to participate in the artspace member show, which was in the convivium33 gallery at josaphat hall - a former church. the repurposing of a space like this is brilliant. the space is awesome and beautiful - here are some pictures including the garden:

live...

vickyelwell.com is live.

saw a couple good photo exhibits today (ansel adams at cleve institute of art, icons... at cleve art museum - as well as going thru and taking pics at the botanical gardens...

more on that later, after paying my parking ticket :-(

misguided attempt to combat global warming...

was it really a good idea to have shakira perform in a benefit to fight global warming - heck, during her performance, the temperature here raised 15-20 degrees...

of course, we should listen to her though, after all, her hips don't lie... actually, as captured by a very attentive camera man, that's about all her hips didn't do...

today...

my family is going to cedar point - i'm not sure what i'm doing - it seems like i'm live earth blogging for the AM - in the afternoon - might go to ansel adams exhibit in cleve...

was thinking of solo camping, but meh....

btw, sarah brightman's performance shattered my glasses - thanks sarah - before they shattered she looks a lot diff than what i recall...

they seen to be giving china the most innocuous acts - brightman - 12 girl band (trad chinese instruments) - which is a shame as they've surpassed the US for the largest carbon footprint...

keith urban...

...whoever that is, made a good point - he noted how he was booed at one concert when he said he would be playing live earth - and he wondered why/how global warning and the environment became a political issue....

live earth highlight...

the highlight so far, though, is nunatak

geek rock p\/\/n5

celebrity causes...

i always wonder about these celebrity benefits - such as today's live earth...
i mean, do peple really say - "all leading scientists warn about global warning, but i'm not really convinced - oh, wait a minute, rihanna is speaking out against it - i'm convinced now..." on the other hand, though her music isn't what i normally listen to, rihanna's set was pretty good...

or if you don't like the artists/music, will it be counterproductive - for example, they just played a new madonna video commissioned for the event - i hated it - and for a brief minute i considered buying a hummer...

seriously though, if it rasies awareness about this serious issue, i'm down with it... reminds me of what jerry garcia once said about a benefit for the rainforest" "someone has to do it, it's a shame it had to be us..."

g*d knows our leaders have had apparently more important things in mind that saving the planet...

site update...

i think i am done updating my site/blog design for now - of course i will be adding content, etc...
i also revised my links eliminating many dead links, people i've lost track of...

if i've deleted your link, or i never have linked to you, let me know...

pardon my dust...(remake/remodel)

inspired by a number of sites i have worked on recently:
jerry
gina
and the newest, vicky. this one is so new that you might not be able to access it until dns servers worldwide catch up with me...

i am reworking my own site...any old content you are looking for can be found on the links page under the title "old content/links"

my aim was to streamline my site - to focus on what is important to me now...

in the transition, there could be some display issues as well as some missing links of friends on my links page - i will be working on this - but please let me know if you notice something

one other note: i love doing web development - so if you want some done, let me know - we'll talk

as a teacher, i feel it is critical to walk the walk. how can one teach web developing unless one is willing to get one's hands dirty - and not just by reading, attending seminars, etc...and, one can never stop this - it is important to stay current...

always crashing in the same car...

P6290489_2.JPG, originally uploaded by mike_zellers.

i notice i take the same pictures over and over - not sure if it is healthy or not. i *think* what is at work here is that when i do this, i am trying for a picture i can kind of see in my head, but am still trying to capture - i've done that previously with dandelions - not it seems to be the kalilily. a difference here is i am manipulating the photos quite a bit. i don't feel guilty about manipulating images since i read how in one of answl adams most famous photos, he removed cluds. of course, it required much more skill when the effects were done in a darkroom, but hey, i have the tools and i am going to use them.

i've been listening to henry kaiser - an outstanding musician that is also an accomplished deep sea diver. as a software developer that has become a teacher that loves to take pictures, i love to read of a person that refuses to be pigeon-holed - for whom the line between profession and fun have blurred...

here is the full set of kalilily photos
