bjork's best album - for me, medulla...

i love the bbc america show, the kumars at no. 42. yesterday's show featured the grandmother asking patrick stewart why there were no indians on the enterprise. she asked "what, didn't you need IT support?"

...I'll still take Vespertine, if only for a little deeper thematic unity. Her earlier albums were not very cohesive - not to say that any of the songs were bad, most were great, just that as albums they were not "concepts" in the way the last two were (or last three if you include Selmasongs)... She is one of the few pop musicians who reveals more with repeated listenings...Is there any performer who has her depth at all?

Not an easy choice. Her collaberation with Matmos on Vespertine, is the stuff glitchy, angelic dreams are made of. Medulla while beautifully crafted, is missing something for me.

it is a sign of great artistry when there is disagreement about an artist's greatest work. i am coming to think of it as wrong to even think in those terms. i was listening to medulla yesterday and really was getting into it. her greatest gift, imho, is her remarkable voice and this showcases it very well - and her voice is wonderfully complemented by the others...
also i like to stir up healthy discussion....

Heh. Actually, I believe that's one of the science officers' roles. That's what the Vulcans do. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I can see it now: "Help, Spock! My computer has a blue screen of death!"

Spock calmly walks up to the computer, gives it the Vulcan pinch, and walks away. The computer goes black.

Kirk: "Spock, what did you do? Now it has a black screen!"

Spock: "I changed the nature of the problem. It no longer has the problem you were complaining about. In fact, it will never have any problems again. All you have to do is call starbase xyz and request a new computer. They should have it delivered by Tuesday."

Kirk's eyes glaze over as he thinks about getting an upgrade.
